Is it just me, or have YOU ever struggled with the “JUST IN CASE” mindset?!
If you’ve struggled with it, you’ll know EXACTLY what I’m talking about when you read these examples:
“I’ll eat this last piece of pizza just in case it goes to waste.”
“I better not try to lose weight again just in case I fail.”
“I NEED to eat these donuts right now, just in case they run out.”
“I better eat these chips right now even though I’m not hungry, just in case I feel hungry later.”
Being honest with you, this mindset is something I STILL struggle with at times!!
For example, before my last vacation to San Diego, I noticed it while packing — “I better bring extra clothes JUST IN CASE I get rained on or ruin an outfit.”
Almost EVERY single woman I work with deals with the “Just in case” mindset in some way, shape, or form… Especially when it comes to dealing with hunger & emotions. In reality, the “just in case” voice simply triggers the deprivation mindset, which makes it DARN near impossible to be successful.
So… What do you do if you struggle with the “Just in case” voice in your head?!
You ACKNOWLEDGE it, and then you ask yourself “What’s the worst thing that could happen if I DON’T do this?!”
For example, before my trip, I asked myself “What’s the WORST thing that happens if I don’t have an extra outfit & need one?”
And the answer was easy—I either do laundry at the hotel OR buy a new outfit. Either of those are stress-free options!
Let’s look at another example from above… Let’s say you tell yourself “I better eat these chips now JUST IN CASE I feel hungry later.”
Ask yourself… What’s the WORST that happens if you don’t eat the chips and you DO get hungry later?
NOTHING! You won’t die of hunger!! You can always go and find another meal or snack if you DO become hungry!
Do YOU ever struggle with the “just in case” mindset like I do?! How do you deal with it when it shows up?
