Slow progress is better than NO progress!
Let me tell you the story of one of my amazing clients.
Before working together, she had tried EVERYTHING under the sun to lose weight. To clarify, she’s been trying to lose weight for roughly the past 30 years. That’s a LONG time to try and lose weight.
She would constantly lose and re-gain the same 10 pounds over and over again, no matter what diet or program she tried.
I actually remember that on our initial call, she asked me “So what’s different about you? I’ve failed SO many times in the past when I have tried to lose weight… How do I know this is different and will work for me?”
Fast forward 7 to 8 months, and she is down 21 POUNDS!
To some people, 21 pounds may seem like slow progress over 7 to 8 months. That’s a loss of ~2-3 pounds month. Or roughly 0.5 pounds a week.
However, for someone who has NEVER lost weight consistently, this progress is FANTASTIC!
Repeat after me: SPEED OF WEIGHT LOSS DOES NOT MATTER!
Just because you can lose weight quickly doesn’t mean you’re doing it in a way that is sustainable.
During our time together:
She has lost weight while still enjoying carbs (hello pasta and pizza).
She has lost weight while still drinking wine.
She has lost weight while still enjoying desserts.
She has lost weight while still eating chocolate.
At the end of the day, she’s simply learning the skills to be healthy *MOST* of the time, and she is learning HOW and WHEN to enjoy the foods that she loves most.
I would rather have my clients lose weight SLOWLY and SUSTAINABLY than have them drop 10 pounds in one month, only to gain to back immediately.
