Simple Tips to Stop Overeating
Has anyone else felt like you can’t stop eating or snacking during this quarantine time at home?!
Yep, I’ve had days like that too.
During this time, I’m reminding to give myself a little extra love around my food choices… But, I’m also reminding myself of easy actions that I can take to keep my mindless snacking at bay.
Here are my best tips to help you stop overeating:
1. Eat without distractions. This one is hard, but if you’re able to eat without your phone or without sitting in front of the TV, you’ll be able to fully pay attention to your hunger and fullness levels, and you’ll be able to enjoy how your food tastes.
2. Don’t spend extra time in the kitchen. This one is harder for me because our new house has an open kitchen/living room concept… However, it works even for me! As much as you can, do your work and relax in a room that’s away from where you keep your food. For me, that’s becoming my upstairs office.
3. Don’t skip meals. It may seem logical at the time, but skipping means (especially when you feel hungry) almost always leads to over-eating in the long run.
4. Swap sugary drinks for water. The calories in sugary drinks add up quickly. If you swap one glass of water for a can of coke each day during the span of a week, you’ll save yourself 980 calories.
5. Don’t eat out of the container. Whether it’s ice cream or chips or baby carrots, make meals and snacking easier by portioning out your food on a plate or in a bowl. It’s too easy to overeat if you’re mindless grabbing out of the large container… And it’s much easier to stick to healthy portions if you know exactly how much you’re eating.
6. Enjoy your favorite foods in moderation. Restricting yourself by eliminating all desserts or all carbs is a recipe for disaster… Because complete restriction usually leads to binging. Plan and decide ahead of time when you want to enjoy your favorite foods, and then plan on eating nutritious food for the remainder of your meals/snacks.
