Why Tracking Macros Instead of Calories is Important

When it comes to losing weight, creating a calorie deficit is KEY!

Tracking calories is an easy way to be sure you’re in a deficit, but tracking calories AND macros (the amount of protein, carbs, and fats within the foods you eat) can help make the process more enjoyable.

Let’s chat about 5 different benefits of tracking macros versus just tracking calories:

1. Tracking macros can improve your relationship with food. When tracking macros, ALL foods can fit into your daily plan. Whether it’s an ice cream sandwich, or a glass of wine, or a piece of pizza, ALL foods can fit into your nutrition plan when you track macros. This helps shift your mindset away from the “good” vs. “bad” foods, and helps you understand how some foods contain more or less nutrients than other foods.
2. Tracking macros helps you understand the nutrients that are found in the foods you eat, ensuring that your body is getting enough energy so that you look and feel your best.
3. Tracking protein specifically helps ensure that while you are losing weight, you are truly losing FAT and not lean muscle mass.
