How Nutritious is Your Food?

How nutritiously are you actually eating? 

That is the question...

Does trail mix actually contain fewer calories than a DQ blizzard⁉️

Not necessarily!! 

Sometimes snacks that are marketed as “healthy” by food distributors and that we might *think* are nutritious aren’t necessarily as low-calorie as we might think… Especially if you’re trying to lose weight!

Check out this comparison between the nutrients in a DQ small Reese’s Blizzard and 1 cup of a generic brand of trail mix. 

As you look at these numbers, remember it’s not a matter of one choice being “good” and the other choice being “bad.” 

Is trail mix less processed and does it contain more overall nutrients (like healthy fats) than a DQ blizzard? Absolutely!! But if weight loss is your goal, then calories are key here. 

It comes down to knowing and understanding what’s IN the foods you’re eating. And understanding the correct portion sizes of foods for your body and your goals.

That means taking the time to actually READ the nutrition labels of the foods you’re eating. Pay attention to both your portion sizes (1/4 cup is VERRRRRY different than 1 cup) and to how many calories you're actually consuming. 

Now this does NOT give you a hall pass to go eat a DQ blizzard whenever the heck you want because the “screw it” mentality takes over. 🤪

At the end of the day, what’s most important is that you learn exactly what foods (in the correct portions) are *WORTH* spending 560-570 calories on to you… And it needs to be a mix of foods that you enjoy, foods that fill you up, AND foods that help lead to your goals. 

Chances are, if you’re struggling to lose weight, you are eating more calories than you *think* you are… Even if you consider certain foods “healthy” in your mind.
