Let’s talk PROGRESS.
Last week I was on the phone with a client who has lost 0.5 lb since we starting working together 5 weeks ago.
Needless to say, she was feeling super discouraged.
Is that surprising?! Of course not! Most people would feel frustrated and pissed after losing only a half a pound over 5 weeks.
Especially when we are bombarded by a diet industry that promises:
— “Lose 10 lbs in 14 days!” Or
— “Lose 6 inches of stubborn belly fat in 30 days!”
Listen up, friends. It’s totally okay to use the scale as ONE tool to measure your progress. In fact, it’s one tool that I use with every single one of my clients.
However, IT IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO MEASURE PROGRESS!
Read that line again for me The scale is NOT the only way to measure your progress.
There are TONS of other ways you can measure progress:
Measurements
Your strength levels
Your energy levels
How you’re sleeping
How clothes fit
Progress photos
How you FEEL
Long-term sustainability of your habits
Remember that client I was telling you about? She had lost 2 inches off of her waist and another inch off her hips, even though the scale barely changed.
I know plenty of women who weigh 115 pounds who are terribly unhealthy... Just like I know women who weigh 175 pounds and are incredibly healthy and fit who have 6% body fat.
The number on the scale represents your relationship to gravity, and THAT’S IT.
Don’t lose your cool and stress out, and don’t allow that number to be the ONLY progress marker to define you.
What is one other way that you like to measure progress?!
