The REAL truth about CARBS.
Carbs tend to get a bad reputation when it comes to weight loss… I mean HOW many women have you heard talk about eliminating carbs to lose weight? TONS!
The TRUTH about carbs is that they are actually your bodies’ PERFECT and PREFERRED form of energy!
Here’s where the vast majority of those struggling to lose weight DON’T understand — carbs come in two different forms.
Simple carbs, such as white breads and pastas, baked goods, candy, pretzels, and pizza, don’t contain many nutrients. Our bodies metabolize these foods quickly, which leads to a spike in blood sugar (followed by the dreaded crash). In addition, these carbs don’t keep us feeling full or satisfied for very long.
Complex carbs, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, whole grains, beans, and quinoa contain plenty of nutrients and fiber. They help to stabilize your blood sugar over time (HELLO all-day energy) and keep you feeling satisfied for longer periods of time (which translates to eating less food… which can lead to a calorie deficit that’s needed for weight loss).
When it comes to meal planning, try to eat 0.5-1 cupped-handful servings of complex carbs for MOST meals (~80-90 % of your meals), while enjoying the same portion-size of simple carbs in a select FEW meals (~10-20 % of your meals.)
Have YOU ever tried to eliminate carbs before? Was it sustainable?
